Search

There are three search types available in the RCEC: «Basic», «Advanced» and «Search also».

Basic Search

The search line for generating a query is located at the top of the «Home» page.

«Basic search» provides the possibility of creating a query for one description element: «Any field», «Title», «Author», «Subject», «ISBN», «Series».

To start the search, you need to enter a word or phrase in the field, select the search area (by default, RCEC searches in all fields), and click the «Search» button (to the right of the search form).

The search is based on the first characters entered from the beginning of the word.

The letter case does not matter.

In the search field, you can specify an entire word, a truncated word (using the (*) character, you can specify a left and / or right truncation at the beginning and / or end of the query), or several words.

When forming a query from several words, the «and» operator is automatically inserted between the words, so the search will return a result where all the specified words will be present.

Using the (*) character expands the search range.

Advanced Search

Advanced Search allows you to create more complex queries by combining several parameters and applying various facets.

By default, three fields are offered for query generation. It is possible at any time to add or remove new search field by clicking “[+]” or “[-]” buttons. Entering the query parameters in the search lines, you must choose what type of data you need to search («Subject», «Title», «UDC», «BBC», «Author», «Publisher», «Place of publication», «ISSN», «ISBN»). “Any field” search is offered by default. Search parameters in the search lines must be connected with the operators “and”, “or” and “no”, which will make it possible to specify the scope of the search.

«Advanced search» allows you to search exactly for a phrase that contains adjacent words. To do this, you need to create a query and select a search element with the value «... as a phrase».

At the bottom of the Advanced Search page are additional selection elements («Document type», «Publication date range», «Document language», «Location»). This will allow you to narrow your search results.

Search also

This function makes it possible to carry out an additional search in the largest open access search engines: Electronic catalog of the National Library of Belarus, Bibliopoisk, WorldCat, Google Scholar, Google Books, Electronic catalog of the Russian State Library, Electronic catalog of the Russian National Library, Electronic library system Znanium, Electronic library system of Lan Publishing House, Electronic library system Urait, BASE (Bielefeld Academic Search Engine), Internet Archive, CORE (Connecting REpositories) and Open Library and allows you to find bibliographic and full-text documents.

It is necessary to form a request on the main page or in the advanced search and search in RCEC.

If there is no information about the document in the RCEC, you can select the «Search also» option, then you can continue searching using open access search engines from the drop-down list of information resources. In this case, the previously entered search query is transferred automatically to the search engine selected from the list and the search result is opened in a separate window. It should be noted that with the Advanced Search, only the first search field element is transmitted to the selected search engine.
